The carburettor in your car allows more air to flow into your engine when you press the accelerator pedal and a tiny amount of air in to allow the engine to idle. The carb gets clogged up with black hard oil deposits which can cause rough idling, Hesitation when accelerating and cutting out.
These black deposits come from the emissions pipe leading into the carb. The point being that oil vapours and unburnt fuel that escapes into the oil well get re-circulated back into the combustion process via the air inlet (carb).
Cleaning your carb is fairly simple. Remove the air filter with a screwdriver to expose the carb. Then remove the accelerator cable, unplug the electrical connection and pull off the fuel tube. Finally remove the carb secured by 4 alan key style bolts.
Be VERY carefull when cleaning the carb. If you adjust the butterfly valve accidentally while cleaning it you will either have to try to re adjust it yourself or even buy a replacement. Avoid getting any plastic or electrical parts wet. Watch your fingers. you dont want to get them stuck between the plate and wall as the spring is very strong.
Once cleaned, you may need to calabirate it so that it works properly. This can be done via VAG COM (on vw cars) or by disconnecting the battery for 20mins and re attaching it with the throttle cable disconnected. Reverse the removal process and dont forget to put the emissions pipe back onto the air filter box.
Do this at your own risk. I will not take any responsibility for damage done to your car, yourself, others or other cars or property.
